Updating DNS Records with Squarespace

Squarespace is a popular platform for creating and managing websites, and many nonprofits use it. If you're sending emails with MonkeyPod, you'll need to create new DNS records, and if Squarespace is managing your domain, it's easy to do.

Note that even if you are using Squarespace to host and manage your website, your domain registrar may be a different platform, such as GoDaddy or Namecheap. This depends on where you purchased your domain and if you migrated that domain to Squarespace.

If you do not have access to the DNS menu explained here, you cannot update your DNS records in Squarespace, and will need to manage these at your domain registrar instead.

How to update your DNS records in Squarespace to send email with MonkeyPod

If you're managing your DNS settings with Squarespace, you can access your DNS settings from your domain settings.

  1. From your Squarespace dashboard, select domains.
  2. Under the domains managed by Squarespace heading, you should see your domain (i.e. awesomenonprofit.org). Click on your domain name.
  3. On the domains page, you should see a menu option for DNS on the left. Select that option.
  4. Scroll down to the custom records section and select Add Record. You may be prompted to verify your identity.

You're now going to repeat the process a few times to create all the records you need. When you select Add Record, you'll be prompted to select the record type. The type of record you need to create is noted in MonkeyPod on your Email Deliverability page, you'll need to create 1 MX record, 2 TXT records, and 3 CNAME records.

  • For your MX Record:
    • In the name field in Squarespace, paste the value from subdomain column in MonkeyPod
    • In the priority field, enter 10
    • Set the TTL field as low as it will go
    • In the mail server field in Squarespace, paste the value from the value column in MonkeyPod, but remove the "10 " from the beginning. You should enter "feedback-smtp.us-east-1.amazonses.com"
  • For your TXT Records:
    • In the name field in Squarespace, paste the value from subdomain column in MonkeyPod
    • Set the TTL field as low as it will go
    • In the text field in Squarespace, paste the value from the value column in MonkeyPod.
  • For your CNAME Records:
    • In the name field in Squarespace, paste the value from subdomain column in MonkeyPod
    • Set the TTL field as low as it will go
    • In the alias data field in Squarespace, paste the value from the value column in MonkeyPod.

When you're done, select Save. It will take some time for your DNS settings to refresh, but after some time has passed, you can return to the DNS settings page in MonkeyPod to check to make sure your the records were correctly added.
