What should I consider when migrating Relationship information?

You are moving to an integrated system

Remember, MonkeyPod is a fully integrated system, so your relationships will be what you traditionally think of when you think of a CRM (Donors, Board Members, Partner Organizations), but they will also include people like vendors and customers!

We highly recommend sitting down with everyone at your organization who will be utilizing MonkeyPod and going through the Roles and Custom Attributes you're considering.

It is best to prepare one import file if possible with everyone on it. Like many organizations, you probably have people who fall on each of those lists, so you want to make sure you import them once with all of their roles!

What should I have ready to prepare my import files?

To begin bringing your relationships into MonkeyPod, you have to first determine three things:

  1. What roles are important for our new MonkeyPod relationships?
  2. Am I going to have custom attributes for any roles?
  3. Are any of these entities related to each other (householding or connections)?

Where should I start?

Not sure what these would be for your organization? Make sure to check out these articles in the knowledgebase to learn more about them!

  1. Entity Types: This article helps you learn the types of entities MonkeyPod provides you so you can determine how to best import your data
  2. Roles: This article helps you explore how Roles work in our system. Roles are highly customizable, so you will want to decide which roles you want your fresh new MonkeyPod relationships to have!
  3. Custom Attributes: This article helps you to explore the way that MonkeyPod handles Custom Attributes.
  4. Householding: This article will help you understand how householding works in MonkeyPod.

Once you have determined this information, you can begin importing what you need!
